We definitely can’t play that game..one of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn’t belong, can we?
Why oh why are black men still allowing themselves to be photographed and portrayed like this?
Why?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again the fact that they are wealthy, black guys out there, like Lebron James who would allow themselves to be depicted like this without any remorse is sad and disgusting.
And this is another reason why I’m rooting for Obama. Because I’m sick and tired of the portrayal of blacks in the media.
And when I say media I’m including black media in there as well (and if you have any doubts about how we portray ourselves check out BET one of these afternoons)..we’re either over-sexualized nymphomaniacs, dumb baboons or violent, unemployed welfare recipients and if Barack becomes president the image of black men in the media will slowly start to change and at least start to become more reflective of the black men and women I know and see everyday and dare I say the black people most of us interact with instead of these caricatures of a people we’ve become so used to seeing in the media.
And for those of you who will claim that you can’t see any similiarities among the posters…I’m sorry to say this but you’re clearly blind..

For the past few days I’ve been listening to the pundits discuss Obama’s speech and whether or not his speech connected with the average white working man or woman in the United States.
And if the pundits are to be believed Obama’s speech failed to or resonated very little with the average middle class woman or man and based on some recent polling Obama is slipping in the polls against Hillary and John McCain among democrats nationwide.
This fact is not surprising. With all the negative attention and flak Obama has received in regards to his pastor’s comments and his association with the pastor, Obama who was already lacking support in that demographic has sustained even more damage.
However, I believe that Obama can sway more working class white democrats to his side if he changes the way in which he is trying to connect with them.
At the moment Obama is hoping that his message and his delivery of that message will sway these voters and I’m sure his campaign staff, more knowledgeable people than myself, have already microtargeted this group however their strategies clearly aren’t working.
Obama may secure the nomination without significant support from these specific democrats but he cannot win the general election without them!
When discussing the American working class, I’m reminded of a passage from the book One Nation After All by Alan Wolfe in which he states;
“From a middle class point of view, the ideal society would be one in which everyone-immigrants, minorities, the poor-would uphold middle-class values so that someday they might obtain middle-class incomes..that’s another way of saying that their solution to class inequality is to insist on moral equality..”
And I must agree that this is what I have found to be the case as well.
Most white working class Americans want to believe that ultimately life is fair, you might get some bad breaks here and there but in the end if you work hard enough, follow the law, have faith in God and take pride in your country, family and community you will be a success.
They don’t believe most people are deserving of handouts or charity in large part due to their immigrant backgrounds which in many cases has taught them to suck up their problems and issues and just deal with them.
Unfortunately this is where the disconnect between Obama and his message to the white working class is occurring.
Obama’s values are not translating into their world instead what is translating is a perception that he’s receiving undeserving adulation. Many would probably claim that they don’t even know what he stands for and not his stance on the issues but what he stands for as a MAN and this in many ways is contributing to Clintons’ success among them.
Clinton has had the luxury of time to convey who she is and what she represents and her husband’s legacy doesn’t hurt either. Obama unfortunately has neither but I believe that if Obama talked about his life, his struggles, his demons, this would resonate more with working class whites more so than anything else he may have to offer, at this point in time.
If I were an Obama strategist (I’m hoping to get a call anyday now…lol) I would advise him to talk more about himself and and what he has been through when he’s in Pennsylvania and other predominantly white working class states because these voters are crucial to winning in November.
Undeservedly so, this week, millions of America started to question whether or not Obama shares one of their core values-patriotism.
However if voters and in particular white middle class voters perceive, long term that Obama does not share their core values (patriotism, faith in god, freedom just to name the critical three) he will be soundly defeated come November.
He cannot allow this to happen.
So in the end he must rely on who he is as a man to convince those who are skeptical of him of his policies and the direction in which he wants to take the nation.
That is what I believe will ultimately sway these voters to support and follow him.

Here’s another installment of my where are they (the former presidential nominees) now….

Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter remember him? He too thought he had a chance of becoming the Republican nominee for President but those thoughts and his campaign should have evaporated almost as fast as a pool of water in Death Valley. Instead he dragged it out until January 19th of this year.
Today Duncan Hunter, who isn’t seeking reelection, is probably working fervently to get his former marine son elected as a Congressman from the 52nd district of California his old seat!
Listen Congressman Hunter didn’t win the nomination but maybe his son will.. he certainly has the looks!

In a few minutes Obama is to make a major address on race in Philadelphia a direct response to the ridiculous and distasteful comments made by his pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
This story as I stated in an earlier blog has the potential of confining and labelling Obama as simply being ‘the black candidate’. Obama, since the story broke has tried to quell the uneasy feelings that have arisen among many Americans in regards to his potential presidency. And rightly so.
Obama in his speech today must try to allay those fears, quash any sentiment that he would simply be a president for black people without pandering to whites or becoming an apologist for blacks!
That’s going to be tough, because many African Americans, unfortunately, believe in the words of Rev.Wright and Obama knows that so how does he distance himself from Wright without distancing himself from the entire community?
Obama, I believe would’ve had to make this speech at some time during his campaign but the events of the last week have only catapulted it earlier into the current ugly racial mosh pit.
If Obama turns the tide with this speech it will be talked about for generations.
If he fails we might have to wait another eight years for his presidency.
**of course i’ll bring you my thoughts about it afterwards**

So, over the weekend I started thinking about all the presidential nominees that have come and gone since 2007!
Where are they? What are they doing? What were they names again..lol?
I’m just saying..I can’t remember all their names and I doubt you can too..go on..try…try to list all the former perspective nominees on the republican side I bet you don’t get more than four! Without cheating, no Wikipedia…lol.
Anyway, I decided that each day this week I’m going to feature one of the candidates and their going-ons since they dropped out the race! Now I don’t claim to have super sleuthing powers but the net is a great, great thing and whatever I find out I’ll post and if you find something out as well post it…
So let’s begin my version of where are they now with former mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani.
Well apparently, Mr.Giuliani hasn’t really left the campaign trail apparently he’s been stumping for McCain almost and even in some cases more fervently than he did for himself, how sad…how very, very sad. One year ago Rudy was leading in all the national polls he even had a double digit lead over the current nominee, John McCain!
Today, he’s a wealthy, high profile surrogate!
Can you imagine spending 40 million dollars to end up a McCain surrogate/spokesman a job that you would’ve got anyway? Man that’s gotta cut deep but on the flip side he now has more time to go shopping with Judy!!!
Look at that smile on John McCain…could it be any bigger!!! LOL

This is ‘Kristen’ aka Ashley…Eliot Spitzer’s lady friend…
She’s a pretty woman…
Here are a few of her words:
“My path has not been easy. When I was 17, I left home. It was my decision and I’ve never looked back. Left my hometown. Left a broken family. Left abuse. Left an older brother who had already split. Left and learned what it was like to have everything, and lose it, again and again. Learned what it was like to wake up one day and have the people you care about most gone. I have been alone. I have abused drugs. I have been broke and homeless. But, I survived, on my own. I am here, in NY because of my music…”
Apparently she’s a singer..How long will it take before she has a record deal? I say 2 months…

Gov. David Paterson, an African American, will be sworn in as the 59th Governor of the State of New York.
Paterson who is legally blind would become the the fourth-ever African-American United States governor, now that stat is pathetic, but at least we’re on our way to changing the status quo of one other major political office that has been out of our grasp for the last two hundred years with Obama!

I know everyman has two sides but this is unacceptable if proven to be true. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say…I really hope that if it’s true he resigns and that he goes away swiftly before this causes even more problems for the democrats.
Man oh man the democratic party is something else in an election year where we’re holding all the cards, great candidates, loads of money and a receptive political climate we’re going to blow it all. Believe me, we liberals will find someway to muck it all up and at the same time give ammunition to the Republicans and for years to come we’ll be talking about what went wrong! I’ve heard Ms. Rice’s name mentioned a few times as a possible running mate for John McCain but I always thought it was just pundits talking bs..(you know kinda like Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich or Mike Gravel actually believing that they could be president..lol..just kidding in my world Paul and Kucinich would both have terms) but I started hearing the rumblings again and I can’t believe that people are actually thinking that Rice would be on John Mccain’s short list.
This is amazing, I’m starting to wonder if some people in the media aren’t just bandying her name around because she’s one of only a few nationally recognizable black Republicans? COME ON!!
Listen, people for one thing she’s already said no and she’s not even doing the smiling, maybe thing..she really means it and just because there is qualified, black person running on the democratic side doesn’t mean that you have to have a qualified black person running on the republican side to even things out!
You might think we (black people) need for that to happen but believe me we don’t unless you guys are the ones secretly needing FOR THAT to happen (hmm..i wonder) but believe me in time the Republicans will have a qualified black candidate up there running for president (only God knows when..but it will happen..lol) they might have missed the boat with Colin Powell a few years ago but I’m sure there will be other chances to talk about the black, republican guy/gal running for president 2008 just isn’t that time so stop trying to make it don’t we have enough drama as it is? Well, Well, Well…Clinton won three out of the four states last night. I must admit I didn’t see that coming (check out my last post..lol) good for her bad for us ‘Obama-mamites’…lol nah just kidding…but seriously she won not by playing FAIR but by playing up FEAR another tactic that unfortunately for her has a very, very short life span when it comes to Democrats but it worked and Texas unexpectedly slid into her column.
Clinton has once again used tactics that I wouldn’t have expected from a Democrat, let alone Hillary Clinton, to beat another Democrat but she’s gotta do what she’s gotta do and instead of eloquently voicing my anger and frustration in this blog I have chosen instead to focus on where we go from here now that it is quite clear that neither democratic candidate intends to budge and rightfully so before the convention.
Hillary intends to fight on and that is her prerogative I don’t think that she should be forced out prematurely let the people decide. The rules and only the rules should determine how and when she concedes to Obama. Obama shouldn’t be pushed to concede either because he doesn’t have the full support of the so called party establishment (super delegates or whatever). Now, if a nominee isn’t decided by June then it’s up to Michigan and Florida. If these two states are allowed to redo their primaries then their delegates should be seated since both candidates would’ve been allowed to fully campain within their boundaries and the results would ultimately have been fair and it seems that both camps as well as party officicals in both states are in favor of this possible solution.
If after the Michigan and Florida do overs in June and we still don’t have a nominee Obama and Clinton should sit down and decide to be on the same ticket for this is only way to coalesce and appease all the different groups Obama and Clinton have amassed in their respective bases and all these groups will be needed in order for the democratic party and the democratic presidential nominee to march triumphantly towards a win in the general election.
To be quite honest if you had asked me a few weeks ago if I would’ve been in favor of this I would’ve said NO WAY because I haven’t approved of the statements made by Bill Clinton, surrogates in the Clinton campaign or the attitude of Hillary herself towards Obama’s candidacy however, if this is not settled sooner rather than later McCain will have a BIG advantage on the Democratic nominee in November and the prospect of another Republican presidency, even that of John McCain is distasteful and unacceptable.
But I will say this if Obama gets to the convention and is then pushed aside by the super delegates for Clinton I will sit out this election and I will do everything in my power to get other Obama supporters to do so as well..I may even consider joining the Republican party..who knows.. because the idea of the democratic party elite choosing the nominee instead of the people is undemocratic and against everything that I believe liberals and the democratic party should stand for.
However, if the two candidates reach a mutual decision that puts country and party first and the people are also in agreement how can I not support an Obama/Clinton, Clinton/Obama ticket!
Now that’s the real question which name goes first..maybe they’ll toss a coin?..LOL

I understand the premise of never underestimating the Clintons and in particular Hillary Clinton.
Whenever they have been counted out they have come back bigger, harder and stronger..what was Bill Clinton known as? the comeback kid.
So, it is quite understandable why people have been hesitant to count them out but before today it was said that she needed to win both Ohio and Texas to stay in the race, even her own husband said as much, in the last few days it has changed to she only needs ONE to stay in the race. I haven’t heard it yet but I’m waiting to hear some prominent Clinton surrogate or supporter or a t.v commentator suggest or state that she doesn’t need to win any more primaries or caucuses instead all she needs to do in order to secure the nomination is to keep raising money and collecting super delegates, show up at the convention in August and the nomination is hers!
I’m serious, every week the Clintons are allowed to determine the finishing line instead of it being determined for them however as ridiculous as this is, IT IS necessary.
As the goal posts have shifted and the touch down line pushed further and further back Obama has risen to the challenge each and every time readjusted his game plan and has kept on playing because in the end Obama even more so than any other candidate has to be seen as winning this race fair and square and with the Clintons playing as hard and fierce as they have in the end it just makes his story even more epic.
And for that story to become that of legend he needs to keep running the hurdles and jumping through hoops in order to become the legitimate Democratic presidential nominee and ultimately the first black president in US history.
I just wonder that if the shoe was on the other foot would Obama have been allowed so many chances my guess is no he wouldn’t but then again life isn’t fair so why should we expect a presidential campaign to be..
***As usual I will be live blogging the results tonight..join me, please..it’s going to be a long one I can’t do it alone….lol***

What books would you recommend Obama read before he becomes President?

Alright…I know, I know..shame on me for not posting.
Yes. I got all the emails and texts about the lack of new posts and here I was thinking that my posts/words meant nothing..lol..thank you for your comments and the concern you showed it was definitely, DEFINITELY appreciated.
Well, I don’t really have an excuse but let’s just say that between my two jobs sometimes three, moving to another state and trying to get an apartment and job there my life has been in turmoil the last few weeks and last week it got the best of me..lol
But thankfully that’s all over and I’m back baby…so let’s get on with it…

Obama and his pastor..
In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis on March 14, 2008 at 11:21 pmObama’s pastor and spiritual advisor Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who married the candidate and baptized both of his children, has made some extremely controversial comments about 911, American foreign policy and Hillary Clinton.
Rev.Wright in trying to fire up and motivate his congregation on behalf of Obama made this insensitive and racially charged comment about Hillary Clinton, ” Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a n**ger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.”
Now, we can argue the merits of this statement which is akin to saying that a white person will never understand what it’s like to be black in America (of which I can talk about from now till the end of time…lol) but in the end I have to say that a statement like this, in this particular context, from this particular individual, should not have been made in the first place.
And Obama should, quite rightly, distance himself from such comments he’s tried to do that for the entire day via press releases and on blogs but that’s not enough.
In addition to those avenues Obama should take the opportunity tonight, when he appears on MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann to reject and repudiate (those two words are quite popular this week aren’t they..lol) the statements of Rev. Jeremiah Wright. On a current blog Obama states that he believes, ‘ that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it’s on the campaign stump or in the pulpit…I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.’
He should reiterate this once again tonight just to hammer home the point that he’s not just running for president of the African American community he’s running to be president of America!
Obama and those around him should remember that in order for him to achieve the presidential post he cannot allow himself to be labelled as just another ‘black politician running for president’. Obama cannot win by just garnering the black vote. He can only win by amassing the majority vote and some of these comments by Rev.Wright and others could ultimately marginalize and confine Obama as ‘just another angry black guy’ and cost him the presidency.
And the more time he spends talking about and defending statements made by his surrogates, campaign staff and associates and even in some cases associates of his opponent, on race, detracts from his overall message and his policy agenda!
In addition Obama, his surrogates and any one with even the slightest association with the campaign must remember that Obama is not running to be the president of the African American community he’s running to become the president of the United States of America and he can’t achieve that if other communities believe that he can’t or wouldn’t represent their best interests of the United States as well as the interest of the black community.
Obama, ultimately will have to put country first and community second and of that there should be no disagreement!
