Obama, the ‘official’ Democratic nominee by this time next week

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis on May 30, 2008 at 2:52 am

So says Harry Reid Senate Majority Leader and Speaker Nancy Pelosi in an article on the New York Times  website Harry Reid said, “By this time next week, it will all be over, give or take a day,”

Wanna bet Ms.Clinton and her supporters say, “Not so fast you two….,” LOL..

***Update****  Pelosi warns Clinton supporters but will they heed her advice?

Gay people need not apply to Jamaican cabinet

In Election '08, Politics, Social issues, current news analysis on May 26, 2008 at 6:20 pm

Well, Well, Well…

So now the whole world is exposed to Jamaica’s ugly underbelly; the extreme homophobic aspects of their society.

Bruce Golding, the Prime Minister of Jamaica in responding to harsh criticisms and a call for action by a Canadian gay human rights group Egale Canada, to protect gay Jamaicans from abuse and sometimes murder responded via a British talk show, Hardtalk by emphatically declaring that there would be no room for gays in his cabinet and that acceptance of homosexuality is not necessarily the direction in which he wants to take his nation.

All of this from an educated, businessman that leads one of the more developed countries in the Caribbean!

How can the Caribbean progress when ideas like these are held and perpetuated by the intellectuals and elite in the upper echelons of West Indian society?

Another Obama first?

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis on May 26, 2008 at 6:31 am

So the Obama campaign has sent out a questionnaire/survey soliciting information from supporters upon completion you can offer any suggestions or advice you have for Obama and the upcoming general election campaign.

I like it.

I like it a lot.

I have never heard of a campaign doing something like this before just as I had never heard of a campaign asking for just five dollars the Obama campaign have broken lots of new ground this political season.  Haven’t they? LOL

It can be argued that by actively requesting the advice of the ‘average girl and guy’ supporter Obama continues to fuel his campaign by helping to contribute to the feeling that every single person in his campaign matters no matter how small, they are just as powerful as his closest advisers.

It may be just a feeling but it works and it works well.

You can bet that present and future political campaigns are taking notes.

Well, they should be..

Chelsea Clinton for President? You gotta be kidding..

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis, women's issues, you gotta be kidding me.. on May 22, 2008 at 3:26 am

What’s this? Do all the Clintons have plans of occupying the White House?

First the dad got it, now the mom wants it and soon the daughter might go after it..man,  I’m serious, the Clintons seem to think that the White House is their permanent home address..lol

Anyway, apparently Chelsea’s dad, Bill Clinton, thinks that his little girl might have political aspirations after being a surrogate for her mother this primary season.

All I have to say is if Chelsea Clinton plans to run for any office in this country, she’s gotta toughen up quite a bit and acquire some thicker skin. Cause the questions are going to be a whole lot tougher than the ones (or lack thereof) she got from a college students.

In addition, she wouldn’t or shouldn’t have the protection of her parents anymore and disparaging comments on the scale like the ones made by MSNBC’s David Shuster are going to come fast and furious and the journalists that state their observations aren’t going to be suspended or disciplined for reporting their conclusions instead they will be encouraged.

Kentucky is close so far, even though Clinton is the projected winner..

In Uncategorized on May 20, 2008 at 11:16 pm

MSNBC has projected Hillary Clinton as the winner of the primary in Kentucky.

Clinton knows she’s not going to win the nomination or that it can’t be ‘handed’ to her by the super delegates but she’s got a point to prove and that is understandable. She’s Hillary Clinton. She got into this on her terms and she’s going to exit on them. Fair enough.

But the main story here would be if she only wins Kentucky by a slim margin now that would be the real story because it means Obama is making in roads with those white, blue collar democrats and that augurs well for the general election..

***Update****…Guess it wasn’t close after all..

Michelle Bernard has West Indian blood, not a surprise..

In Election '08, Politics, Race, current news analysis, women's issues on May 20, 2008 at 10:37 pm

 michelle bernard and chris matthews

If you happen to watch MSNBC as much as I do (I know, I know I have no life…lol) then you know the name and theface Michelle Bernard as CEO of a conservative women’s group and a Republican party supporter I’ve always wondered why she seems supportive of Obama’s candidacy and believe me  I’m not the only one who’s noticed this.

After a comment by Chris Matthews on tonight’s Hardball about her heritage I now understand the enthusiasm she has repeatedly showed for Obama’s candidacy.

Bernard is the daughter of Jamaican immigrants and if you understand anything about the Caribbean and its people then you will understand why Michelle leans towards social and fiscal conservatism so that explains her political leanings.

However, at the same time she probably has a deep understanding of what it means to grow up black in America and also how significant and monumental it would be not only to America to have it’s first black president but also how much it would mean to all those in the black diaspora as well and this explains her Obama championing!

Hmm..now it all makes sense and by the way she’s separated from this guy..

BTW Sandy Leidholt took that awesome pix, check her out…

Senator Ted Kennedy is NOT dead…

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis on May 20, 2008 at 6:05 pm

So why are the major networks talking as though he is?

Senator Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. It’s a serious, serious, serious health concern and he should be in all of our thoughts and prayers.

However, what’s bothering me is the coverage of this event. All the major anchors and networks are covering this as though he’s dead.  They’ve been asking his fellow senators for their thoughts about him, co workers who worked with him about what it was like working with him etc, etc and their tone has been so somber that if you weren’t following closely you would really think he’s past on.

I mean come on people, the man is probably in his hospital room watching all the coverage wtih a confused look on his face and asking his wife Vicki, “Hon, I’m still alive right?”

I really think the tone could be more positive rather than so somber if there is anyone in the Senate who can beat this ‘thing’ it would be Ted Kennedy so reporters and anchors shouldn’t be writing his eulogy just yet.

Chris Matthews is the man!!!

Clinton needs to get out the way..

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis on May 8, 2008 at 12:33 am

So, Clinton vows to fight on after losing North Carolina, barely winning Indiana with dwindling campaign finances and personal loans to her campaign, she’s out to prove that she’s no Eight Belles (I know, I know bad taste but I couldn’t resist..I mean Big Brown, Eight Belles..lol)  well that’s her choice but if I were a member of Obama’s campaign or a ’superdelegate’ this is what I would be saying/ singing right about now..

and from the looks of things they are telling her too...lol

May 6th, do, die or delay day for Obama..

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis on May 6, 2008 at 5:01 am

Obama must win at least one of the two primaries tomorrow and based on recent polling in both states Obama continues to lead in North Carolina while Clinton leads him in Indiana.

A win by Obama in either of the two states must be by a big enough margin, at least 10 points, for it to be considered a real victory and if he doesn’t, (I’m afraid to say it) and instead looses both primaries he will be handing the nomination to Ms.Clinton, who will then look to be the safer choice between the two, when their cases are brought before the super delegates.

If he wins one and she wins one then we’re looking to yet another primary  on May 13 to be a decider, yet another delay and yet another week of this drawn out process, with the result being less time for the democratic nominee to prepare for the general election and more time for John McCain to marshal the troops and deploy the scouts to gather ’swift boating’ information.

Obama and his campaign are at the edge of a cliff looking over and the only thing that will stop them from careening over the other side will be victories by significant margins. Losses could ultimately end his campaign, ( as unfair as it is, we have always known that the deck has been stacked against him) this is unfortunate, since the same rules haven’t applied to his opponent.

N.B It’s good to see that the campaign has abandoned the large rallies for more intimate, one on one voter settings…if he does win Indiana tomorrow, it will be because of this change in strategy..

Laura Bush’s press conference on Burma..

In Politics, current news analysis on May 5, 2008 at 7:33 pm

The first lady gave a rare press conference, today, on American aid and relief efforts to assist the people of cyclone ravished Burma.

And I must say, she did a pretty good job it was way better than most of her husband’s efforts.
