Global attention for Obama..

In Barack Obama, Election '08, Politics, Race, Social issues, current news analysis, fun things on July 19, 2008 at 2:27 pm

To coincide with Obama’s overseas trip I’ve posted a couple of global music videos celebrating and praising Barack Obama’s candidacy.

Here’s a soca song for Obama by Trinidadian soca legend Mighty Sparrow….

Jamaican reggae superstar Cocoa Tea does a wicked reggae song for Obama..

Andres Useche uses Obama’s slogan, yes, we can as his hook..and it works perfectly…

There’s even a punjabi poem celebrating Obama’s rise….

Hmm..with such global attention already can you imagine how the world would react to an Obama presidency?

John Mccain likes black people..or does he?

In Politics, Race, current news analysis on July 16, 2008 at 4:07 pm

While he might not receive a big hug at the very least he gets a fist bump for showing up and talking to NAACP leaders, ( President Bush only showed up once in the past eight years) and activists at the annual NAACP convention in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Now, I don’t think this appearance was all about the black vote. I am quite sure Mccain had ulterior motives (trying to enhance his appeal to moderate republicans and democrats) but hey all politicians have motives right but like they say appearances matter and this was a good one for Mccain.

He still needs loads of work on his speech delivery though..he sounds and looks too stiff and very, very uncomfortable this is an area he needs to work on if he doesn’t want to lose all the debates to Obama.

The march towards Idiocracy continues..God help us!!

DUH...

DUH...

Now, I’m going back on one of promises here but please, please forgive me I promise I wouldn’t stray again but I couldn’t help it, I clicked on an article about Ashlee Simpson’s pregnancy cravings out of sheer curiousity, why? I don’t know..I was interested..LOL

But lo and behold what confronted me in this article wasn’t an in depth article about celebrity cravings instead one of my biggest fears was confirmed..the world is slowly starting to resemble the world in Idiocracy thanks to people like Pete Wentz and President George Bush!

You see, Pete Wentz, the bassist for the band Fall Out Boy (Backstreet Boys with guitars) and future father ( you know, I don’t know which is scarier the fact that he plays base for a crappy boy band or the fact that he’s a future father…lol) made this brilliant observation, “I heard women become mothers when they become pregnant, and boys become fathers when the baby is born..” OMG!!! He came up with that all by himself!

But it gets better dear reader he then goes on to tell us his views about parenthood which he compares to making a record..”but knowing you’re going to mix it for the next 18 years of your life.”

Now, if you’ve ever heard a fallout boy album, you know that’s a really, really ominous comparison!

The leader of the world’s biggest polluter admits it..proudly!!!

At his final  G8  summit in Japan, George Bush, the President and leader of the most powerful nation in the world and the nation with the biggest responsibility TO the world (since we consume 25% of the world’s resources) told world leaders as he left the summit, right after rejecting global climate change targets,  with a smile and a wave, Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter.

No. This is not a joke.

The most powerful man in the world and the leader of our country has once again shown the utmost disrespect to our allies and the people of the world with his comments and actions.

Regardless of your political persuasion you have to agree that comments such as these are not helpful to our image abroad and do little to advance our international political interests.

I just have to keep telling myself just six more months..just six more months.

I thought men love talking about Viagara…

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis, fun things on July 10, 2008 at 6:48 pm

But apparently John Mccain doesn’t. He looks in visible distress at the first mention of the word Viagara by a reporter..

How long before this is used on the late night shows? If it hasn’t been used already..LOL..

So Rev.Jesse Jackson wants to rip Barack’s b#$%s off…

In Election '08, Politics, Race, Social issues, current news analysis on July 9, 2008 at 11:40 pm

And apparently these comments will be aired tonight exclusively on FOX News since Jackson made the comments while conducting an interview at FOX News.

Jackson made the disparaging comments about Obama in response to a question about recent Obama speeches on morality.

I have no doubt that Rev. Jackson supports Obama ‘on the surface’ at least  but if your friends say such things about you who needs enemies right? LOL

Now I cannot or would I seek to disrespect Rev.Jackson’s service or contributions to the African American community in the past. However, that’s just it he’s a past, black leader. He is to be honest no longer relevant.

What Rev. Jesse Jackson or Rev. Al Shaprton for that matter thinks about Obama is off little consequence in my world and I would argue in the worlds of many, young professional black people. Their views and opinions on race are somewhat antiquated and I would even argue the views of a lot of older Americans black or white as it pertains to race are also in that vein as well.

For far too long, the African American community and the national media in general have relied on a handful of black leaders to discuss the issues and problems affecting the he black community not recognizing that the community is as diverse as the American population and that there is no longer a need to solicit specific black opinion on so called ‘black matters’.

In the past we did need leaders like the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton but they are no longer necessary and if an Obama candidacy has proven anything at all, it has proved that the fights have changed and that the African American community is not in need of black leadership but leadership in general as is the entire United States.

Obama has sought to define himself as a leader and that to me is true racial progress.

It may be upsetting to some black leaders but if they truly have craved racial progress and truly want to see Blacks in America progress they must stop harping on the fact that Obama does not talk about black issues at every turn or that any criticism of a specific segment of the black population is off limits for a black politician.

Instead they should fully embrace the fact that solutions to the problems facing many black Americans does not lie in the search for or embrace of a new black messiah or a handful of black political leaders and that Obama’s candidacy and future presidency will mean more to race relations than almost anything that has occurred in the last fifty years!

True solutions can only be reached if we recognise that the problems facing black Americans require solutions and discussions with all Americans and that we CANNOT AND MUST not re-fight old fights but focus our energy and attention on new ones.

Obama moving to the center, but of course, he wants to win..

In Election '08, Politics, current news analysis on July 2, 2008 at 8:22 pm

In recent weeks Obama has been shifting his positions on issues and has been moving slowly toward the center.

He has begun to take a more moderate stance on specific issues including gun control, foreign policy, and the death penalty and he’s even touting his religious creds by saying that he wants to expand the faith based initiative program started by George Bush!

Boy, the gall of this man he actually believes he can and wants to win this thing!

And apparently a lot of his supporters on the left are hopping mad at him for wanting to do just that.

Ok, they aren’t really mad at him for that, but a lot of his supporters on the left are probably a bit confused by his actions and words so far.

However, as one of those left leaning supporters I’m not a bit surprised or even mad.

Why?

‘Cause I want him to win and I want a democratic controlled Congress and Senate come November too!

And I know that this country is not going to elect a democratic candidate for president that is seen as way too liberal in the same vein it wouldn’t elect a Republican that is seen as far too conservative.

Obama knows this he’s seen what has happened to candidates that are perceived as way too liberal.i.e John Kerry and *Al Gore (you know why that asterisk is there, no need for an explanation..lol) and he’s being proactive by taking centrist stances on issues that are important to a lot of people in this country but where the shades of grey are so numerous that taking a far left or far right stance could be seen as ludicrous and taking such stances leaves you wide open for attack.

Obama is doing what he has do in order to win.

And I’m not mad at him.

And less we forget he’s a politician and he has an agenda. That agenda meshes a lot with what most of us on the left want to see occur in this country but remember he’s not the second coming of Christ, nor is he the next Martin Luther King so when he starts to tactfully shift some of his positions to the center we shouldn’t get mad or upset that is of course if we want to win the White House in November.
