Obama is ready to fly and so are we

O is ready to fly and so are we!

Fantastic headline

I don’t normally come across fantastic headlines across the web but this one about Newt Gingrich’s South Carolina Primary win was concise and bold just the way I like my headlines. Whoever wrote this Huffington Post headline did a great job. Well done!

After the storm there she stands..

Today’s Wednesday Beauty is another anonymous beauty from Flickr. The shot was taken by DiverseblkBeauty and is titled After The Storm. And after a day of protesting or a really long, bad day she’s definitely a sight for sore eyes. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday!

Martin Luther King’s unarmed truth and unconditional love

“I refuse to accept the cynical notion that nation after nation must spiral down a militaristic stairway into the hell of thermonuclear destruction. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant. I believe that even amid today’s motor bursts and whining bullets, there is still hope for a brighter tomorrow. I believe that wounded justice, lying prostrate on the blood-flowing streets of our nations, can be lifted from this dust of shame to reign supreme among the children of men. I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits.” -Martin Luther King’s Acceptance Speech, on  the occasion of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo,  December 10, 1964

Andy Rooney has gone to find all his lost things

American writer and humorist Andy Rooney died Friday night from complications following surgery at a New York City hospital.

Rooney, became famous for his wit and acerbic observations as a commentator on the CBS News program ”60 Minutes”. And if there was one person that epitomized and seemingly relished in his role as ‘the cranky old man’, in my opinion, it was Andy Rooney.

He said things many of us thought but wouldn’t dare to say and I didn’t always agree withhis commentaries but at the end of each segment I was either laughing, smiling or shaking my head in frustration. Mr.Rooney always got a reaction out of me.

Mr. Rooney, as you once said, ” My idea of heaven would be to die and awaken in a place that has all my lost things.” I hope that you’re there and that all your lost items are in the hands of some punk ass kid and that you have to argue with every, single one of them to get them all back! I pretty certain you’d enjoy that scenario and sir, I sincerely hope that you rest in peace.

Gov Rick Perry meets Sesame Street’s Two Headed Monster

This week we saw two sides of Governor Rick Perry. At the beginning of the week, we saw video of him delivering one of the most bizarre, yet strangely mesmerizing speeches an American presidential candidate has probably ever delivered in New Hampshire. Yet, he says he wasn’t drunk! Okay then. And then at the end of the week on an appearance on CNN’s John King’s USA, Perry appeared to be an entirely different candidate not only were his responses to King, well thought out and coherent most importantly he actually seemed to know and care that he was on camera and that his actions, all of them were being weighed and judged by millions of people! What a difference a week makes right? I wonder why that candidate didn’t deliver the Cornerstone Action speech last Friday night and where was he at the past couple of GOP debates?

But hey, at least Perry’s antics allowed me to tie politics and Sesame Street together that doesn’t happen too often.

Tide Stay-at-Home Dad commercial..

Tide, a popular American laundry detergent, is running a new commercial featuring a stay-at-home dad speaking about the benefits of Tide Boost.

I can’t recall another major household brand, as well-known as Tide featuring a stay-at-home dad, I wonder if we’ll see more brands following suit?

At this moment corporate America, hell corporations in general, don’t deserve one iota of praise from the public but Proctor & Gamble has earned at the very least a “well done” for having the guts to flip the gender roles and promote this non-traditional spokesman and in effect, an idea, for one of their most beloved products. I applaud Proctor & Gamble’s efforts to empower men who have chosen to throw off society’s shackles and embrace the primary care-giver role which once the main and in most cases the only role for women.  P&G, I tip my hat to you!

What do Herman Cain and a Llama have in common?

They both have the creepiest smiles I have ever seen.

Check out Nicki the Llama smiling from about 0.42-0.45 and tell me, isn’t that one of the creepiest smiles you’ve ever seen in your life? Well for me that smile was number one until I saw Herman Cain’s latest campaign ad, with him smiling at the end. I didn’t know what he was trying to accomplish did he want to go for inspiration and authenticity or did he just want to creep us all out around Halloween? Lol I don’t think he was going for the latter but after seeing him smile, at the end of that end most of the viewers probably did what I did lurch backward, raise an eyebrow and muttered, ”What the hell was that?”Lol

But it’s all good Mr.Cain you don’t need any of those fancy ads, your authenticity is winning you millions of friends and your campaign coffers are swelling so obviously you’re doing something right and people love it! But I’d practice my smiling in the mirror just a few more times before appearing in any more ads.

But to be fair Me And My Llama  wins the best song contest hands down! So my dear vintage Sesame Street fans go ahead and sing along you know you want to and don’t worry if you feel like a kid when you’re singing it’s ok. A whole bunch of ‘big kids’ will be singing right along with you!

10 facts about Islamic Sharia Law

This past Sunday Mustafa Abdul Jalil, chairman of Libya’s National Transitional Council, said, “We, as an Islamic state, have adopted the Islamic Sharia as the main source of legislation as such, any law that runs contrary to the Islamic principles of the Islamic Sharia is legally void”.

You could hear the collective gasp of many in the West who after spending billions of dollars to help liberate Libya were left wondering after Jalil statements, if they had actively helped to create another oppressive Islamic regime? Chairman Jalil, has since then, sought to assure and calm Western leaders that this is not the case but only time will tell however here are 10 facts we all should know about sharia law.

  1. In Arabic Sharia means, “the clear, well trodden path to water.”
  2. Sharia law is derived from a combination of sources including the Qur’ an, the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad and the rulings of Islamic scholars.
  3. Sharia law seeks to regulate the actions of muslims and puts the actions into five categories, obligatory, recommended, permitted, dislike and forbidden.
  4. Sharia law sets out rules of conduct for women and men.
  5. Sharia manuels are often divided into four parts: laws relationg to personal acts of worship, laws relating to commercial dealings, laws relating to marriage and divorce and penal laws.
  6. The Qur ‘an the primary source of Sharia law was revealed to the Prophet Muhammed over 23 years.
  7. They are two agreed upon derived sources of Sharia law; scholarly consensus (ijma) and legal analogy (qiyas).
  8. Sharia law does not require women to wear the burqua.
  9. Several countries, with the largest percentage of muslims Indonesia, Bangladesh and Pakistan have secular constitutions and laws with limited Islamic provisions.
  10. Crimes under Islamic laws can be broken down into 3 major categories Haad Crimes (most serious), Tazir Crimes (least serious) and Qesas Crimes (revenge crimes restitution).
