Mike Tyson’s world falls apart at the loss of his daughter..

mike tyson

Mike Tyson’s four year old daughter Exodus died yesterday in Phoenix, Ariz. The little girl was found dangling from a treadmill’s cord at his Arizona home. She had been on life support for a few days.

In recent weeks Mike Tyson has been travelling around the country promoting his new documentary that chronicles his struggles with addiction and alcoholism and his road to redemption.

Tyson has been at the precipice of self destruction more times than we can count. We can only hope that this horrible, horrible tragedy doesn’t push him over the edge entirely.

Welcome, President Barack Obama! We’ve waited long enough…

Today the world welcomes the 44th President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama.

For two years we have followed and commented on every detail of his life and his family’s life.  We have scrutinized and demanded his positions on every issue. We have even witnessed him ’brushing his shoulders’ off after a few missteps on the campaign trail. Along the way he captivated and inspired us with his soaring oratory and solid belief that WE can change the world.

To all of you who called, walked and knocked on doors for Obama and Obama/Biden because you wanted to change Washington D.C, the country and the world today is YOUR day!

To all of you that have suffered, due to the arrogrance, bumbling incompetence  and divisive policies of the previous adminsitration today is YOUR day!

To all American troops across the world, today is YOUR day!

To all Iraqis who long for peace and sovereignty. today is YOUR day!

To people across the world who believed in America even when we had lost our way today is YOUR day!

To Michelle, Malia and Natasha today is YOUR day!

Finally to all Americans STAND UP AND RAISE YOUR GLASS IN CELEBRATION OF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA FOR TODAY is OUR day!

Now, let’s get to work rebuilding this country we don’t have a moment to lose.

No more ‘baby daddies’ but more Fathers…

This past Sunday at a black church in Chicago Barack Obama talked about the epidemic that has infected and continues to spread throughout the black community-absentee fathers.

I applaud him for having the guts to talk about this issue, at a black church, to a black audience on Father’s Day and I seriously hope he continues to talk about it every single chance he gets not just on Father’s Day. But Obama and high profile celebrities like Bill Cosby shouldn’t be the only ones addressing this issue this is a national issue and it calls for a national solution.

Here are the stats: ” Nearly 40 percent of American children will spend some time without a father present. More than 60 percent of African-American children live in single-parent households.. among more recent births, that rate is above 70 percent.”

This is unacceptable!

Yes, I know, we didn’t create the problem but we should all be part of the solution because we all have a vested interest in making sure that the majority of black youths are able to fully realize their potential and that black single parent homes become the exception rather than the rule.

In a society that preaches that every child should have a decent shot at making it in America can we HONESTLY say that these children, many from low income families and with ever present economic and social barriers, will have or have that shot if we allow men to be mere absent ‘baby daddies’ rather than committed fathers?
