Go ahead swear. It’ll make the pain go away!

a word that crosses all languages..

Swearing doesn’t actually make everything better or make the pain go away but we now have proof that swearing helps us to be better able to tolerate a painful situation.

Unlike most people, I didn’t start swearing until I was 19. I was a sheltered child..lol. Anyway I had to ‘learn to swear’ and I still haven’t developed the knack that some people have for combining swear words George Carlin comes to mind here. So I tend to rely on the most used ones and I must confess that to this day they are just some some swear words I could never, ever use. But who could deny the fact that sometimes the only appropriate word for a specific situation is $UCK!

And during my various travels I found that Americans are a lot better at swearing than Europeans. We’re born naturals the words kinda roll off our tongues. And the British have a way of swearing that makes you feel dirty all over and not in a good way..LOL.

One more thing, I have to applaud the women and men who took part in this study because what they were asked to endure in order to determine the affect of swearing on an individual’s tolerance to pain sounds like an act Dick Cheney would have sanctioned!

Anyway, all we have to do now is get them to do a study proving that swearing at our PCs causes them to work faster so we’ll be able to swear at work-in front of our bosses!

Computers will take over the earth..eventually

rise-of-the-machines

And Google and Nasa are planning to help them nah, just playing..lol

But really I’m not that far off.  Google and Nasa are supporting a a new school in Silicon Valley whose mission is to help prepare scientists for the time when machines become smarter than people and at the same time address some of humanity’s biggest problems.

Hmm..sound familiar and scary?

Well, the new unaccredited school will be called “Singularity University” (kinda sounds like something from Star Trek)  will be run by  Ray Kurzweil, the crazy-scientist inventor-guy-type.  He’s the kinda guy that would tell us the machines are out to get us..lol

I don’t know Google and Nasa are two of my favorite companies/agencies but this seems to be really, really out there but science does march on and as they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and I’m pretty sure some of their ‘research products’ will find their way into the marketplace then we can all prepare for war with the machines.

Couldn’t Microsoft have done better?

I should be talking and writing about other things ( i.e, the economy going to hell in a handbasket, the first presidential debate on Friday, the Michigan polls, the Palin phenomenon ) I know, I know but the new PC ad just cracks me up and not in a good way.

As Gob from Arrested Development would say, ” Come on!”. I don’t care how many celebrities or prominent leaders they get to sign on to the ad or how many times they run it the fact remains it doesn’t even come close to beating one of the MAC vs PC ads. Not one!  And they were getting played out after a couple of months believe me!

But If I were an advertisng exec for Apple I would be LMAO right now at the gift they just handed me, because it just confirms everything MAC has every said about PC and I didn’t have to spend a dime.

The funny thing is I have a PC..lol

Super Tuesday was the first day of the Obama phenemenon…

Today we talk about the the Bradley effect when discussing African American candidates in the future we will be talking about the Obama phenomenon when discussing candidates of any race or gender who defy expectations and generate momentum in non traditional areas!

February 5th was indeed a historical day.

Now, Obama did not take Hillary Clinton down (he got 841 and she got about 837) but with his wins and delegate splits he was saying to her ”I’m not going anywhere!” and that this race is going down to the wire.

But what is the real story? To me, it’s WHERE Obama won and with WHOM.

He won in Colorado, Utah, Missouri, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota and North Dakota! He won in NORTH DAKOTA!!!

Now, ten years ago if you told me that there would be a black presidential candidate in my lifetime winning primaries and caucuses in these states I would have laughed and vehemenetly disagreed with you while secretly concealing in my heart the desire and hope of it being true.

Today Obama won these states and he closed the gap between him and Hillary when it comes to white voters and women. Obama has shown that Hillary does not have a monopoly over these demographic groups and that his message is making in roads with these voters like it should.

As a man should not be ‘judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character’ and today we saw yet another step in the direction of that finally being realised.

Neither candidate has a clear advantage but if Obama fails to get the nomination the effect of this day will still resonate with potential non-traditional political candidates because Obama has shown how it can be done and more importantly than that we are starting to see a generational shift where race and gender are viewed quite differently.

This election will be not be determined by that generation exclusively but it certainly wouldn’t be decided without them.

You see, I know that Obama is the candidate of choice for my generation however if he fails to become the nominee it will be due to OUR work, OUR perserverence and OUR selection of his opponent and from this time onward we, today’s youth vote will finally be given our due recognition.

And with Obama’s victories today still fresh in the minds of all let it be known that, if he wins the nomination and goes on to become the president of the United States, that we the members of  Generation X  and  Generation Y, those raised on Sesame Street and Nintendo, those who have never experienced life without computers, punk rock or rap music have shown that we are tuned in and that we have no intention whatsoever of tuning out and we will fight up until our last breath to fully realize the dreams of our parents and grandparents and thus return this country to the heights of greatness it so rightly deserves!
