Is the GOP looking for President Reagan to save them?

ronald reagan

According to Michael Steele, GOP Chairman, Republicans are done ‘looking in the rearview mirror’.

But in his speech yesterday all he did was look back.

From his comments about Reagan to the fact that he failed to offer no new policy positions on any current issue all Steele did was remind millions of Americans why they aren’t Republican anymore.

Steele tried his very best to convince us that there is a new GOP we just haven’t seen it yet, ” Our comeback is well underway out in the states, I can assure you of that..the folks inside the beltway don’t know it yet but those of you who toil in the vineyards, spending time in communities, in diners, barber shops, and coffee shops where real every day people can be found…you know it is real.”

Steele obviously sees things that we don’t.

It has become quite obvious that the only reason Michael Steele got the RNC Chair is because he’s a black guy. And unfortunately, many GOP leaders wrongly believe the only way to effectively criticize President Obama is to have another black guy do it. That’s the only conclusion I can come too because Michael Steele has nothing else going for him.

He can barely rally the GOP base. He doesn’t have the support of the GOP leadership (what leadership there is) and he’s an ineffective leader and communicator and his money raising skills are mediocre at best.

So why is he still there?

Could this be the reason why millions are abandoning the GOP?

The GOP seems to be perpetually stuck in the past on everything and instead of moving forward Republican leaders are constantly looking over their shoulders as if they are hoping President Regan will ride in on his white horse and save them from themselves and those bad Democrats!

The GOP must STOP LIVING in the past and STOP DIRECTING their message to those who want to return TO THE PAST because if they aren’t careful they will become a PARTY OF THE PAST!

But who am I to offer any advice? I’m just a no good liberal right? LOL

Race doesn’t matter when it comes to seating Burris..

Senate Burris

Race is NOT an issue when it comes to seating Roland Burris as the junior Senator from Illinois at least it shouldn’t have been but obviously it has become an issue.

I guess that’s why Dick Durbin, Harry Reid and news anchors alike keep talking about it.

Just a few hours ago Dick Durbin, tried to reassure his black constituents and African Americans across the country that race isn’t the reason behind the non-seating of Burris.

He kept talking about how Burris is his long time friend and that he’s very fond of him etc etc..do you know what that sounded like to us black people and to a lot of other folks? It sounded a lot like appeasement. The irony is black people don’t want Roland Burris seated either!

But it seems that matters very little because from all appearances Burris will be seated-eventually because Reid and other Democrats don’t want to be called racist!!!

This is ridiculous. After all their tough talk all Burris had to do is show up, create a scene and then cry,  “Look, the white people don’t want to let a black man into their club,” in order to get the senate seat.

How sad. How very, very sad.

Now, it might not be as simple as that I agree but that is exactly how it appears to many in the public believe me and that to be honest doesn’t help to improve race relations in the country.

The simple fact is Roland Burris should not be seated! Period!  And his race has absolutely nothing, NOTHING, to do with it.

And the fact that he will be seated eventually simply because his appointment has been reduced to the fact that Reid et al don’t want to be seen as ‘keeping the black man out’ just goes to show that we haven’t really moved that far along to creating that post racial society we kept talking about during the 2008 campaign and had really hoped Obama’s win had showcased.

It’s a pity.

Roland Burris will take his seat in the Senate..OMG..

shady

Roland Burris should not be seated, even though in all likelihood he will be,  as the junior Senator from Illinois.

Now, I’m not familiar with the laws governing the seating of a Senator who was appointed by a governor under criminal investigation but any appointment by a politically discredited governor faces harsh criticism and adds a huge blemish to the body/capacity in which they have been appointed to serve.

The Senate doesn’t need any more blemishes.

So what if Roland Burris is African American? If Burris is seated he would be the only African American in the Senate. Who cares? His appointment is tainted and by extension HE is tainted.

But it seems Roland Burris is up for a fight and the Democratic leadership should give it to him. Under any other circumstances his appointment would be met with approval BUT these are not ordinary circumstances so extraordinary measures should be taken to deal with his appointment.

**** 1/6/08  UPDATE: Roland Burris was not allowed to be seated and was turned away by the Secretary of the Senate.***

Good! He shouldn’t have been there in the first place,
