Four of a kind? Hannity, Limbaugh, Maddow, Olbermann

What do Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh all have in common?

They are all contributing and should shoulder some of the blame for the lack of bipartisanship and extreme political polarization in Washington DC and across America according to popular CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer.

Blitzer made the comment during today’s The Situation Room as he was speaking to Donna Brazile and Mary Matalin about President Obama’s rare and extraordinary appearance before the House Republican Issues Retreat in Balitimore, Maryland.

Hmm..Wolf does have a point. These news commentators exacerbate the conflicts and differences that exist between the two parties with their over the top rhetoric but in many ways they are just reflecting how a lot of Americans feel and think on the left and the right.

Where are the independent commentators? And no CNN doesn’t count.

  1. By definition, there aren’t any independent commentators. While I agree with the sentiment of this post, MSNBC was basically invented to rebut Fox News.

  2. Anyone that thinks Olbermann and Maddow are the same as Limbaugh and Hannity — just opposite sides of the same coin — doesn’t really know any of those people. Limbaugh and Hannity traffic in hate and fear. Its like saying you’re the same as Michelle Malkin just because you both have blogs and discuss politics.

    • Thank you so much for your post Damon and I do understand your point but sometimes Olbermann and Maddow can be a bit extreme in their views and while I agree and support their point of views 90% of the time sometimes the two commentators are unable and even unwilling to understand and accept that some people don’t think like they do and that can be just as bad as Malkin, Limbaugh and Hannity.

  3. Black liberal, thank you for your reply. Could you please give some SPECIFIC examples of extreme views that Olbermann and Maddow have expressed? Maddow in particularly routinely invites people on whose opinions are different from her own.

But with all due respect, the facts just don’t support your assertion that they’re all the same. Limbaugh and Hannity have a long and well-documented history of lies, smears and distortions to bolster their views. Limbaugh in particular often indulges in racist and sexist commentary. Hannity was recently busted by Jon Stewart on the Daily Show using fake archive footage to make it look like the attendance at a rally headed by a Republican Congresswoman look larger than it actually was. Mediamatters.com and fair.org both have huge archives on both of them. I’d challenge you to give examples of Olbermann and Maddow doing the same. Just having strong political opinions doesn’t make them the same, anymore than you should be considered the same as Ann Coulter.

  4. 65-70% of the population of this great nation ARE conservative. The founding fathers WERE conservatives. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence ARE the basis for this conservative belief. Why do libs subscribe themselves to a growing govt. and less control of their own lives? Why do you resist and pull away from the Constitution? Why is it that when faced with FACTS, you call us racists and fear-mongerers? Why is it that you will not let me be UNAFFECTED by my government beyond being given the right to live that way? The Constitution provides everything, and intended for, the government to be as small and innocuous as possible in the daily life of its citizens. Stay small and miserable.
